Need some info.I have a ticking noise coming from the engine cant pin point where it's coming from. The timing belt was changed 30,000 mi ago from what the records indicate from the prevuous owner. I decided to remove the cover just to chk and the belt has some slop in it at the cam gear pullys. Not sure if this is normal if not could this be the cause of my ticking noise. Maybe out of timing? Any info will help. Thanks

A loose belt could cause a noise. Is it a metallic sound?

Could it be a lifter? Is the oil clean and full?

If I could hear it, I could tell if it was the lifters. Is there a mechanic that could just listen to it and let you know if it is a lifter? A person with a trained ear can tell in a couple seconds.

Besides the ticking noise what other symptoms would a lifter cause to the engine

It's all related to how bad it is. Most times, you won't notice any difference. If a lifter is totally collapsed, then you will feel a misfire.

If it is a lifter, then it must not be out of adjustment too far.
