1994 Saturn SC2 transmission

My car when starts has a wheezing sound and then it won't slip into gear or if it does go into drive the car stalls. Also if it drives it won't go above twenty without revving hard.

I keep hearing and reading about these "codes, " but I have yet to have anyone explain where they are and where they are inputed.
