Engine starved for fuel, hard to pull away, will take off all of a sudden

I replaced plugs and wires, now it still seems like it is starved for fuelbut then it changes like it got a shot of adrenaline and takes off, but trying to pull away and back upo is very hard but then will kick in and go. There are no hoses broken, the egr valve was unplugged. I plugged it in it made some difference but it is still basically the same. It is very hard on gas. The oxygen sensor looks basically new. Any other thoughts. Thanks a lot
