1994 Mazda 323 Repair Question

Mazda 323 Rpm Problem
Mazada 323 hatch back - when I start the engine 1st time ..the RPM need surges to 2 OR 3 in park then... when I shift to Drive it goes down to 1RPM...when stopping at stop light and shift neutral also surges. The car is automatic.

check for vacuum leaks. check the idle air control motor as well.
is the check engine light on??
