I have a '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo inline 6 and recently noticed a small hole in my muffler. I went underneath to look more closely and noticed the bottom heat shield of the catalitic converter was also rusted through. My questions are twofold: should I also replace the cc when I replace the muffler? And do you have illustrated diy instructions for replacing the two? I have a Haynes Manual for this model, but it doesn't have installation instructions for the muffler.

I wouldn't replace the converter. The heat shields coming loose is a common problem. Take a couple hose clamps and tighten it against the converter. As far as the muffler, you will need to cut the OEM one off and the new one will fit between the area. There will be directions specific to the muffler you purchase, so you need to follow them. Don't replace the converter unless it is bad inside. Again, the heat shield is a common problem. Tighten it using a couple hose clamps put together.

Let me know if you have other questions.
