Jaguar XJS Brakes Problem

I recently purchased this vehicle from a bank foreclosure and have no maintenance records. The rear brakes on this 1994 Jaguar XJS convertible seem to engage while driving and gradually get tighter (in less then 1/2 a mile). Feels like the engine is slowly losing power but when I stop the rear brakes are clearly very hot (smell and smoke). I have flushed the brake fluid (it was nasty, dark brown, almost black) and that seems to have improved the situation (before the rear brakes were sticking at a stop) but it has not resolved the problem.

Thanks, John
