1994 Ford Explorer Repair Question

Driver side door latch doenst snap back into position
After opening the door the latch doesn't snap back so when you go to close it the latch isn't in proper position and it won't close it just bangs....i can manually push the latch into position and it will close but that is getting old quick

most likely an adjustment of either the door hinges or the stricker plate
