My automatic transmission column shift lever, will not go past 2. I cannot get it into 1. The pointer in the instrument cluster bezel stops at number 2. The lever will go a little past 2, but the red pointer will not move past 2. Otherwise everything is fine, I think. All the other gears work ok.

Is the transmission shifting into 1st gear when the indicator says 2nd? If it is, the linkage for the shift indicator needs adjusted.

The shifter lever goes all the way where 1st is, but the transmission doesn't shift into 1st. It shows 2nd also. Stops at 2nd. Pointer stops at 2nd, lever goes to where 1st is supposed to be.

Have you checked the linkage to the transmission? Also, the pointer could also just be stuck. But you said the transmission doesn't shift into first, correct?

Not the pointer moves past 2nd. I think I finally got the transmission to shift into 1st but the pointer stays in 2nd. Is the shift indicator adjustment one can do themselves? I can do somethings with the truck.

You need to remove the inst panel cover to access it. Check to see if the cable is loose or not attached. The cover is held in with T-25 torx screws.
