My brake lights do not work with key on, but do with the key off. my brake switch works and has power but not the multifunction switch

thanks for helping me narrow this down. i found it the other day and it was the ground in the engine compartment that bolts to the engine. i traced the wire all the way through the dash and into there . it was a little ridiculous but worth it. thanks alot
