1994 Chevrolet Cavalier Gear locked in between 2 and 3

When a car gets locked I between gears how do you get it unlocked and what are the possible courses of this?

There should be 2 levers on the transmission. One of them didn't come all the way out before the other one engaged. You will have to manually pull one of them back to neutral.
