I'm trying to remove the cylinder head ;1 what is the procedure for removing the timing belt? (Are there factory timing marks or do I make my own?)
2 Is the amount of grease normal around the gears?

All sprockets are marked except for the oil pump drive which is also the balancer shaft and must be correctly aligned.

You have a leak at the seals which is causing oil to be dumped in the area, which should be dry at all times as the timing belt can break prematurely when contaminated by oil. The seals are leaking and has to be replaced.
