Why does the new starter on my 93 mitsubishi mighty max 2.4 drag while starting

The starter overrunning clutch is slipping-double check battery and connections on it and at the battery

Have put the battery on charger, as the battery may need replacing. Also changed battery posts as they were old and loose. Thanks.

Get the battery load tested to check its condition could be sulfated
