Glow plug light on the dashboard stays on until I turn the ignition on, at which time it goes off. Why does it not go off as usual.

Check that all the glow plugs are closed circuit, if one is open this may be the fault.

mhpautos Is correct the reason the light is staying on is because you have a bad glow plugs, they are easy to check, you will have to isolate them individually take a test light to the positive side of the battery cable, touch the test light on the glow plug, if the light comes on the glow plug is good, if it does not come on the glow plug is bad. replaced as necessary.
