I have a 1993 GMC 2500 4x4 Suburban. What would cause the 4x4 shifter to not engage.
I have a 1993 GMC 2500 4x4 Suburban. What would cause the 4x4 shifter to not engage. It won't shift into 4 wheel drive. The 4x4 shift lever just glides back and forth with out the feel of any gear change or any resistance. Went to use it over the summer and never heard any breakage. 4 wheel won't engage. Help!
Would the linkage between the shifter and the transfer case be the problem and how difficult is it to repair?

there is a bolt that holds the linkage together that may have come loose or came off if this is a manual shift 4X4. check that first, othewise it may be internal.

Thanks, hoping for the bolt option. I have my fingers crossed.
