I have a 93 auto 2.3L the shift lever won't move past reverse. The trans linkage is disconnected so it doesn't come into play. Has to be in the lever it self, console is apart so I can get to the mechanism under the boot in the console just can't figure out what is preventing it from moving into the other gears. I can move the detent lever at the bottom with my finger so that doesn't seam to be preventing it from moving. It moves to reverse position and hits a brick wall. I have disconnected the brake safety cable also.

We don't have apic iof that so check to se if linkage it self is binding or the shift interlock is holding it up. If it's a cable it may be your problem so you may need another if it's disconnected and then moves you know what you need.
