1992 GMC Sierra Repair Question
Why wont my tachometer operate properly?
Another concern is while driving down the road with the cruise set at 60 MPH in 5th gear the shift light comes on then goes out. The tachometer in the console reads approximately 2750, my ALDL reads approximately 1800. Also when accelerating the difference between tachometer in the console and my ALDL greatly increases. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What size engine is the computer for? Any codes?
The computer is for a 1992 GMC/Chevy pickup small block;305 or 350. 1992 has a specfic computer requirement. No trouble codes.

Have you hooked up a timing light with tach built in to see what it says?
My apoliges for not getting back sooner.
Timing is dead on at "0"; RPM's are 700 rpm after the engine is up to temperture and settled out.

No problem. Normally I'd say it's the computer doing a relearn.
As for the engine speed discrepancies, when you've got the timing light hooked up, what readings are getting on the dash and ALDL? Do you have something like a tach/dwell meter you can hook up and drive with so you can check to see if either of them are giving you an accurate reading while driving?
This is weird, I'm going to ask someone else to look in and see what he thinks.
Sounds like PROM calibration to me-due to the performance camshaft-
