Own a Australian model 1992 Ford Laser GL which I converted to a 1.8ltr fuel injected BPT Turbo engine from the Mazda GTX Familia. I recently fixed a bad earth problem but now I'm noticing a lack of power when I hit full gas. Overtaking was never a problem or taking off quick but recently found its driving fine in normal conditions (quarter to half throttle). When starting cold it has rough idle for a few seconds then idles fine after that, wait for approx 1 minute give or take and my street looks like a Jimmy Hendricks 21st Birthday party from all the smoke it emits BUT that clears after a bit. I can drive it before the smoke starts and I never notice any smoke behind me. Unsure if all symptoms are related or not? TPS? Turbo? Or maybe just Ford ha. Anyway I was hoping I could get advise on a possible cause before handing out what little money I have for a Mechanic to look.
Thanks for reading and hope this issue is solved soon before I have to clean the cobwebs off the push bike

Hello LaserMod,

Love the Jimmy Hendrix reference :-)

It sounds like the turbo is worn or wearing out. When this happens it will omit engine oil into the exhaust which sounds like what is happening, remove the turbo and check the shaft wobble, if excessive the turbo is worn out.

Best, Ken
