Makes a noise when you start

On my 2l motor I put a golf 3 2l gearbox, with a 1.8 ring gear and clutch kit, it makes a noise when you start and burns the starters, y? Converted from 1.3 carb to 2l injection, changed gearbox, but don't know if 1.8 ring gear is the same as 2l, 1.8 touches the inner gearbox and makes a noise, will the 2l clutch kit and flywheel do the same?
