1991 Opel Other Repair Question

I have a carb the problem is i struggle to put car in first gear
How do i solve this problem

Sounds as if it is a clutch problem, if mechanical/cable clutch there should be adjustment, if hydraulic, check for low clutch fluid let me know what you find.
