1991 Oldsmobile 98 ignition replacement

When replacing an ignition cylinder on a !991 oldsmobile 98 with the passkey system. Does the cylinder have to take the same key as the old one so the ohms are correct for the computer to read.

Either that or the new key should have the same resistance. It can be measured with either an ohmmeter or gm's tool. Or after getting the resistance make up a resistor of about the same value with radio shack resistors and splice them into the yellow wire that senses the key.
