1991 Mercury Capri Repair Question

White smoke out the tail pipe. not water..... gasoline.
I just replaced my water pump 2 weeks ago. it has ran like a champ. in the drive thru the other day, the idle became sputtering and white smoke came out the tail pipe. the radiator and reserve are still full. there is no water in the oil. it did not overheat. the smell out of the tail pipe is gas and it is spitting it out the pipe too. could it have jumped a tooth in time?

es it could have. Or a plug wire may have gone bad or a plug.
