1990 Toyota Pickup Repair Question

The drivers side brake light doesn't work.

First, I changed the bulb and it didn't work. Then, I cleaned the fixture with no results. Finally, I bought a whole NEW assembly. And, nothing. What should I try next?

Do you have a multimeter to do some testing?
