If it cranks good, but, won't start, have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the plugs. If you have spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure. Any applicable trouble codes? How long since over-all tune-up?

If the starter itself won't crank, make sure the battery has a full charge, check the starter wiring circuit.

If it is turning over and sounds like it wants to start. Remove coil wire from distributor hold with insulated pliers; close to the distributor and see if it starts then. I have a 1986 Pontiac 6000, 2.8, and that is the only way it will start and run, still waiting for an answer as to why.
