I was wondering which gear is to drive on the road and then in the highway?

Use drive or OD for the shift lever.

When I put it in D3 or D4 it starts slow then picks up speed.

How long since a tune-up? How many miles on the engine? With a high mileage engine, if it doesn't have good compression, it probably won't run correctly.

Once you get to highway speed, I use the gear that gives the lowest rpms, for gas mileage.
