1989 toyota corolla 4AF, 5 spd, w/ 240,000 miles. Difficult cold starting

1989 toyota corolla 4AF, 5 spd, w/ 240,000 miles. Never had a starting problem. Last two mornings will not start. Takes a lot of revs to finally start it and then it runs perfect. Maybe choke or some vacuum control could have suddenly failed? Am familiar with the engine. Never took it to a mechanic but I would like an idea of where to look?
