1989 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible problems with the ignition lock. Its Not Allowing Me To Turn It Over

The problem started with the battery going dead all the time. I then began disconnecting the battery terminals when the car was parked for the night and now the battery stays charged. A month ago the key started getting really hard to turn in the ignition ( I even bent one key trying to start the car last week). Now the car only starts off and on. I have to jiggle the key a lot tring to get it started. It is very hard to turn the ignition lock.
