1989 Plymouth Sundance EGR replacement fail

I cleaned the egr port holes in the manifold and cranked the motor with the egr valve off and it back fired from the front and now it will not start

First check for spark and fuel pressure. If those are there, check the timing belt. Backfiring is a good way to make a worn belt jump a few teeth or tear them off the belt.
