Hi,

1989 Olds Eighty Eight Royale. Runs great at various speeds, a/c and heat real good, and over all handles great. But. Problem is it sputters then stalls when I come to a stop and will not start up again.

Does it happen when you are decelerating, or when accelerating after you have stopped?

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, I appreciate that.

When decelerating. As I begin to press on the break and slow down to a stop, not even fully stopped it begins to sputter, stops then stalls out.

Thing is I just bought this car and on my way home that is what happened.

Thanks again for any suggestions you can offer, I want to have a better understanding of the possible problems so I can speak ( argue? ) Kidding! Somewhat intelligently when I talk to the seller.

Try putting the transmission in neutral when you are braking and coming to a stop. What happens? Is the problem all the time or sometimes?

Check for vacuum leaks, check fuel pump pressure, if the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned for trouble codes.
