1989 Jeep Wrangler no power

Its a89 wrangler with a 94 Cherokee motor. Accelerates fine until it gets between 20 and 40. Then I have to push pedal to floor to get a note power. Tops out about 55. Any help would be appreciated

Listen to the sound of the exhaust at the tail pipe. If it sounds like a steady hiss when the engine is idling, suspect a plugged catalytic converter. Your mechanic can verify that by drilling a small hole in the exhaust pipe, then inserting a back pressure gauge.
