I just purchased an 89 civic. The Guy had replaced the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs. It idles really rough and when u try to give it gas, it shuts off. At higher rpms it seems to smooth out but surges. At deceleration it wants to cut off and at a stop it does shut off. Any ideas?

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:

.Defective spark plugs
.Inadequate spark/coil,defective spark plug wire.
.Lack of compression
.False air leakage.
.Faulty fuel injectors.
.Insufficient fuel pressure.
.Contaminated fuel.
.EGR valve that is leaking.
.Oxygen sensors.
.Throttle position sensor.
.Manifold absolute pressure sensor
.Mass Airflow Sensor
.Idle air control valve

Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it-
