I have a 1989 Honda Accord Dx Coupe with 72,000 miles on it. It starts up in morning ok except you have to keep your foot on gas pedal for a few minutes otherwise it wants to stall out. My gas mileage has dropped dramaticaly from 26 mpg around town to like 16 or 17 mpg around town. Could there be a problem with my fuel pressure regulator? A friend had a similar problem with a 1990 Acura Legend and that was what was wrong with his car. They are similar cars with a carb and all?

Carburetted and fuel injected systems works differently. You need to have your carburettor checked/serviced as it is the most common fault for higher fuel consumption, inability to maintain idling coupled with gas fumes.
