1989 Ford Ranger Repair Question

Engine crank but want start why?
The engine will crank but will not start fire is getting to the spark plugs but i don't hear the fuel pump run, it was starting before i remove the tranmission.

check and see if the wires got disconnected back by the tank. the connector is on the left rear frame rail on the top.
