1988 acura legend Coupe, The tachometer stopped working, motor has hesitation, and stalls when I put the car in reverse a couple times and started back up after 15 minutes, check engine light comes on after 10 minutes of driving, I cleaned out the terminals on the shift position console switch which since the dashboard display doesn't show what gear its in and the car appears to be always taking off from 2nd gear on, when gear is put in drive or S3 no difference, when I start the car the computer under passenger seat and footboard both flash light once

I got a code 1. 1 blink on both the under seat computer and the one by the footboard

I appreciate your feedback so much. I'm going to check solenoid valve A and B connections and clean them out put at fluids back on them back and see what happens. What should the other issues? Your help means so much

Code 1 means an oxygen sensor but it doesn't say front or back here is the way to check it if you are mechanically inclined. You may need aharness adapter to do this though

CODESÂ 1Â &Â 2 Â O2Â SENSOR

1. Turn ignition off and reset ECU. Remove alternator sense fuse in under hood relay box for 10 seconds to reset ECU. Sta
pressure. See FUEL INJECTION article. Repair fuel system if not within specification. If fuel pressure is within specifi
2. Bring engine to operating temperature (cooling fan on). Hold engine speed at 1500 RPM for 15 minutes,  without closingÂ
this time. Check if "CHECK ENGINE" light is on and if LED is indicating Code 1 or Code 2. If not on,  problem is interm
again.
3. If light is on,  disconnect indicated oxygen sensor connector. Attach voltmeter to vehicle ground and connector. With eng
temperature,  momentarily open throttle wide open,  then close throttle.
4. Voltage at wide open throttle should be greater thanÂ.6 volt,  and less thanÂ.4 volt at full closed throttle. If not within sp
sensor. If voltage is within specification,  proceed to next step.
5. Turn engine off and attach system checker harness between ECU and ECU connector. Using a voltmeter,  connect negative terminal A18
6. For front oxygen sensor,  attach positive voltmeter lead to connector terminal C12 and C10 for rear oxygen sensor. See
7. Start engine and warm to operating temperature. Momentarily open throttle wide open,  then close throttle. Voltage at wi
greater thanÂ.6 volt and less thanÂ.4 volt at full closed throttle. If not within specification,  repair wire between ECU and
specification,  substitute a known good ECU. If condition is rectified,  replace original ECU.

Thank u so much. I'm going to try that first thing tomorrow. I forgot to mention that I have to change the front and rear valve cover gaskets at some point. Would that effect the O2 sensor?
Also forgot to mention when car warms up and is at idle all lights, electronics, heater fan slow down and dim. Should I change the alternator because the voltage regulator is inside it?

Try cleaning the battery terminal ens first for heater/lights etc. And no the valve cover gasket don't effect them.

Tachometer is now working since I checked all connections. I also added a good fuel cleaner to 1/4 tank of gas. Hopefully that won't mess up the new O2 sensor. Today im going to change the front 02 sensor and alternator was checked to be faulty so hopefully I have time for that too. Also going to check continuity on the transmission console switch to see if that's y the gears aren't showing on dash. Car still seems to be taking off in 2nd gear. Do u think a good transmission fluid change and filter will help that or is it related to maybe faulty transmission console switch?

If the trans is taking off in 2nd gear thre is a good possibility the trans is bad due to clutch/seal wear. That's probably whyyour s3 light is blinking.

Here is away to check it though it says 1990 but it's the same for your year.
"S3" Indicator Light Is ON Steady Whenever Ignition Is ON (1990 L5)

1. Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect 26 Pin and 22 Pin connectors from control unit. Check for continuity between B13Â
ground.
2. If there is continuity,  disconnect 2 Pin connector from "S4" switch. Check for continuity between B13 (Green ) and body g
continuity,  repair short in Green wire between B13 terminal and "S4" switch. If there is no continuity,  replace "S4" switc

NOTE: For additional electrical circuit information,  see WIRING DIAGRAMSÂ.

3. If there is no continuity,  turn ignition switch ON and measure voltage between A23 (Red ) terminal and body ground. If th
ATCU. If there is voltage,  measure voltage between Red wire at gauge assembly to body ground. If there is no voltage,  rep
indicator. If there is voltage,  repair short to power source on Red wire between A23 terminal and gauge assembly.

Thank you so much. I just changed the 02 sensor and both computers lights still blink once. What is you think? I'm going to change the Alternator now and reset computer again

It could be anything either the front or rear O2 sensor or a short in the wire or bad connection at pcm. I have no other suggestions.

I'm going to do with all the diagnostics u recommended tomorrow for continuity and bad connections between the O2 sensors and computer as well as the transmission. Today I replaced the front O2 sensor and noticed the wires that connect to the rear O2 sensor not the one that directly connects to sensor look like crap and I will replace them which may be the problem. I also changed the Alternator and rediagnosed which has showed the battery only having power of 10v at idle and when I gave it gas it went back to 12.8v so I'm going to change the battery tomorrow morning which will hopefully help. Unfortunately the car is older and I hope I can resolve these issues. I don't know if I screwed up the computer when I shorted the transmission gear console switch. I'm start to feel that I may have to replace one of the computers but I don't know ow which one. Any suggestions would be great. I have to thank you again so much
