I have an 87 jeep cherokee and it was running fine then I started it and I heard what sounded like if you polked a whole in a can that was full of air you could hear the air pressure excape for about two seconds I turned the car off looked under the hood and did'nt see anything. Then I started it and when I drove it the hesation and stumbling started. What could it be?

Could be caused by one of the following below

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
False air leakage.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing.
