1987 Honda Prelude Repair Question

Cooling/temp guage
1987 honda prelude 2.0 si. The temp guage went to red after one mile of driving after a cold start. The radiator fluid was not "hot". When starting later that day, the temp guage started at halfway and when driving home (same distance) it went to red again. Any ideas?

Check the thermostat. It could be stuck closed not allowing coolant to circulate.
