1987 Ford F-150 steering wheel

The steering wheel is moving freely up and down the steering still works truck is driveable but not easy to do with steering wheel moving so much it has at least 8 inches of play up and down if not more what should I do

It sounds like the steering column mounting bolts have fallen off. Have you checked that?

The mounts are under the dash. See the attached pic and let me know if it helps.
