How do you change gear without using gearstick?
Car is a 1987 mk4 escort 1.4gl
pushed down gearstick to go into reverse and gearstick is now stuck in neutral. i can see metal sticking out of the bottom of the selector box as it has broken through. this happened before and someone didnt make a good job of fixing it as its broken through again. it says in haynes manual you have to put car into reverse before taking off selector box. i just need to know how to put car into reverse from under car?

Remove shift rod from gearbox place a drift punch in hole of trans shift rod use as a handle. rotate I think left and pull back. good luck
