Transmission went out in my 1986 olds delta. It has 40,000 original miles(so the previous owner says) It is in great shape in and out. Is it worth putting money in this car? It is at a mechanics now, 800.00 for a rebuilt trans but it has 160,000 miles on trans or 2000.00 for newer one? I hate to see this car sent to the crusher BUT I can't afford to put alot in it Thanks for any help

If it is a desirable old car then it's up to you to decide to keep it going? Can you buy another car for the price of tans plus the possible sale of this 1.(Worth more than crush price even with bad trans)run an add and see how much it's worth broke? That may help you decide.

Thank you, good points. I guess you can't tell if you put a trans in that has 160,000 miles how long it would last. Guess it could be weeks or I could still be driving it in a year. Thanks again!
