Ford Thunderbird Power steering Problem
I installed a rebuilt '86 t-bird power steering rack in my street rod. It works fine except it has some free play which causes the car to wonder. Can you tell me how to take out this play? It is definitely in the rack itself. I removed the threaded plastic cover cap from the end of the pinion. It has a nut tightened on a threaded end of the pinion. Is it ok to tighten this a little to try and remove the free play? It now has about a 1/2 inch of free play. I'm guessing that this is a preloaded nut. If so, what should the torque for this nut be?
Thank you for any help you can give me.
