I have a 1985 jeep chreokee chief 4x4 v6 automatic trans.
Trans slips and makes a grinding sound most of the time
hot or cold. I can get it up to 45mph for a little bit then it slows down and engine revs up.
I shut the engine off for a little then start it up again and can go for a few minutes again. The fluid is just a little bit brown and smells a little burned not real bad. Is there something I can try that may get it going for a while ? Thanks for any help.

I would get the trans checked out by a qualified trans tech, the grinding noise is enough to warrant urgent investigation, you may be destroying the trans driving it around like this.
