I have a 1985 GMC 1/2 ton and when you turn on the heater/blower motor on high, within 2 mins the trucks gauges/lights/headlights/blower motor stop working but the trucks still runs. I recently did an engine swap {305 to a 350} and I used all the original altenater. The truck has a brand new battery aswell. When then gauges stop working sometimes if you open a door or pop the hood it will start working again. My question is where do I start to fix this problem?

I bet you didn't hook up the engine to ground strap that goes from the cylinder head to the body either. Also hook up a battery to body ground strap.

Thank you. I checked and I forgot to hook up the ground strap from the engine to the firewall. The ground to the fender I did remember and so far it seems to be fixed. Thanx again
