The truck starts great and will run and drive great for 5 or sometimes 50 miles then it shuts off due to the fuel filter is half empty. Just the fuel filter not the water separator filter. I have replaced both filters put a new mechanical fuel pump on it. Removed fuel tank (there is just one front tank rear tank isn't in it) cleaned it out and took an air hose and blew through all fuel lines. Don't know what else to do except put a electric fuel pump on it. Please help me. Thank you

This is a tough one. You have a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and the feed, and return fuel lines are not clogged. My next question to you is, will the same problem happen if the fuel tank is full? If not, its possible your pickup tube in the tank may be the problem. Other than that, it would have to be the mechanical pump. If it's a cheap one, it's likely the diaphragm inside has failed. Why it happens at certain times, and not others though, I cannot answer. This is a very basic fuel system, so we need to be very basic with diagnosis. I hope this helps. Keep us posted.

Good evening,

There are rubber hoses that connect to the mechanical fuel pump on the block and back at the fuel tank.

If those hoses have cracks around them, they will draw air into the lines and the mechanical pump will not be able to draw fuel from the tank.

I would replace all the rubber hoses on the system and then see if it happens again. That would include the switching valve as well.
