1981 Ford F-100 Repair Question

Why does my clutch pedal have no spring action and it wont push the clutch
I push the pedal and half way down it takes off from my foot, it stays about an inch from the floor, i adjusted the adjustment for the clutch and it still dont work, mechanical clutch
