I am replacing the gas tank and filler neck on my 1980 pontiac trans am. The gas tank just has a hole for the filler neck to slide into it. It does not use a rubber sleave. Does the filler neck need to be sealed or welded seams like it might leak.

Does filler neck seal itself or need to sealed or welded?

There shold be a filler neck soldered to the tank, not welded. If there is only a short neck, the you'll need a hose to connect it to the filler an danother for a vent. Make sure the hose can take gas otherwise it will rot.
