Did you check for voltage and ground at the brake lamps. The voltage wire colors, depending on which side, yellow or dark green. Those wires should be hot when you step on the brake. The brake lites are wired through the turn signal switch. Turn signal and brake lamps use the same circuit, just not at the same time. Do the rear turn signals work?

Did you check the turn /hazzard fuse? What about the brake switch?
