1978 Jeep CJ7 Repair Question
Need help getting my started. dont know where to start on the troubleshooting
"D" IS SOLENOID TO STARTER MOTOR, IN MY PIC AWAY ABOVE HERE!!!!!!....UNLESS YOU WENT BY THE DIAGRAMS I SENT

Ok. update: The engine is running but for only as long as I put gas directly in the carb. Need help getting gas to the carb by itself.
I'M GONNA TRY TO SHOW YOU THE CORRECT SET UP---SO THAT YOU HAVE NOT GOT ANY COMPOUNDING ISSUES LATER!
TAKE THE FUEL LINE LOOSE ANYWHERE BETWEEN THE FUEL PUMP AND CARB
THIS SHOULD BE A MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP---A ELECTRIC ONE IS PROBABLY TOO STRONG!!! (EXPERIENCE W/ OTHER FOLKS)
TURN ENGINE OVER---DO YOU HAVE SOME FUEL PULSING OUT--HEAVY SPURTS? (MECHANICAL PUMP)
WE WILL WORRY ABOUT PRESSURE, LATER IF NEED-BE
RESPOND WITH REAL DEAL AS YOU HAVE IN FRONT OF YOU
AFTER YOU RESPOND--GIVE ME TIME TO SHOW YOU WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE--WILL TAKE A BIT---I'M SLOW

Let me tell you what I've done and you can tell me if I went a wrong direction or not. I had to pack things up due to a wedding I have to go to :(
Last time when I tried to pull start the jeep, I removed the fuel line from the fuel filter and had brown nasty gas pouring out then after a few minutes of that, good colored gas came out. Now that I have good spark, I can't get fuel. I thought it was maybe my fuel pump si I removed that and expected gas to flow out of the fuel line but not
hing. So I am assuming that I have something clogged in the fuel line possibly??
But to answer your question..I did not have fuel spurting out of my fuel lines. is there a way to figure out if my fuel lines are clogged?
FUEL DOES GRAVITY FLOW FROM THE TANK, THE PUMP SUCKS IT OUT!
THE SPURTING FUEL WILL BE WHILE THE ENGINE IS TURNING OVER. TAKE THE OUTPUT SIDE LOOSE...LEAVE IT HOOKED TO THE TANK!
POSSIBILITIES FOR NO FUEL
HOLE IN LINE TO THE TANK (S.UCKIG AIR)
TANK PICKUP TUBE PROBLEM
YOU CAN ELIMINATE THE PUMP HAVING PROBLEMS BY HOOKING THE PUMPS INLET TO A TEMPORARY FUEL LINE, STICK IT INTO A TEMPORARY FUEL CAN, SEE IF IT WILL DRAW FUEL FROM THAT
IF THE PUMP IS REAL OLD OR NOT WORKING, A NEW ONE IS ONLY $15-$25! (PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE)
HOW OLD IS YOUR FUEL? OVER A YEAR???, I MIGHT NEED TO TELL YOU HOW TO GET RID OF IT
YOU MAY ALSO WANT TO REPLACE YOUR NEW FUEL FILTER AFTER 1000 MILES, IF IT'S GETTING A LOT OF CRAP IN ITMAYBE EVEN BEFORE THAT!!! I RECOMMEND YOU KEEP A SPARE FILTER, IN HIM (GLOVE BOX) JUST IN CASE IT RESTRICTS FASTER THAN WE THINK, WAY DOWN THE ROAD! BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!

I believe the pump is still good because it was pumping gas good last week. And now that we have the engine running, we cant get it to pump gas. Should I be able to blow air through my fuel line going to my tank? Is there a check valve in my fuel line?

THERE ARE 2 CHECK VALVES FOR THE TANK, BOTH ARE BEHIND THE DRIVERS REAR WHEEL, UP IN THE FENDER, ONE IS A "ROLLOVER CHECK" THE OTHER IS A "LIQUID CHECK"
DON'T MESS WITH THEM, IF THEY SEEM "UNMESSED WITH"!
BOTH ARE ON THE VENT---THE GARDEN HOSE COLORED PIPE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, COMING FROM BELOW THE FIREWALL, UNDER THE DRIVER'S FEET (PAN) THIS LINE GOES TO THE CANISTER....IF YOUR CANISTER IS GONE OR YOU MAKE IT GONE, I'LL SHOW YOU THE WAY MINE VENTS.
BLOW ALL YOU WANT, DOWN THE FUEL LINE TOWARDS THE TANK...MIGHT TAKE OFF THE GAS CAP
HOPEFULLY YOUR "DIP TUBE" IS NOT BROKE OFF OR THE SCREEN (SOCK) ON IT, IS NOT CAKED WITH CRAP.
IF YOU DO DROP THE TANK, BE PREPARED TO GET A NEW ONE. THE PLASTIC SHIELDS AND STRAPS HOLD SAND AND DIRT. WHEN THEY GET WET, THEY STAY WET AND YOUR TANK USUALLY RUSTS THRU. SORRY! LAST TIME I DROPPED MINE IT WAS CLOSE! I WENT AHEAD AND UPGRADED TO A 21 GALLON POLYETHYLENE TANK...DON'T HAVE TO STOP AT THE GAS STATION AS MUCH!.....THAT WAS ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO....I SEE NO SIGNS OF RUST ON THE PLASTIC TANK!---NONE ON "WILLY" EITHER! I PUT A FIBERGLASS BODY ON HIM, BIG TIME CHEAPER/ LIGHTER/ QUIETER/ NO IRON OXIDE!

Yes I did get your message. Didn't see it until you said something about it. I tried to blow through the fuel line going to my tank but got nothing. So it is either clogged up or I was hoping there was a valve in there that was keeping me from blowing air back to the tank. Any suggestions on unclogging fuel lines?
I know my pump is still good because it was pumping gas last week.
I am going to hook up a temp gas tank when I get home just so I can drive down the street. Once I get that feeling, I won't have any problem dumping money into it.
What did you mean by my jeep was a "6?" I won't ask what a 1-5 is though lol
Looks like you're jeep started off a little worse than mine..maybe a lot worse. Did it have much rust on it when you got it? Looks great now though so that gives me good hope. Will update you on progress once I get home and attempt to drive it.
