Is it my transmission or something else?

I have a 1978 ford f150 ranger slt (automatic) that wont go over 5 mph, was wondering if it is a transmission issue or something else... I was driving to work one day and it was working fine, parked and went to go home and it went into reverse fine and when i went to put it in drive and accelerate it would only go 5 mph... what is wrong with my truck?, because it has a brand new engine, and im stumped.

it sounds like the trans is slipping. most likely has a c6 trans and it sounds like the front clutch worn out
