Tried to fire up a rebuilt engine on my cj5, 225 odd fire V6. Cylinders 2, 4, and 6 run great. When #1 spark at TDC plug wire is plugged into #2 on the distributor, 1, 3, and five will not fire at all, If I plug cylinder into # 1 on the dist cap at TDC nothing will fire only some back fire through the carb and exhaust.
I have checked the intake and carb and both sides are getting fuel. Replaced points, rotor and cap and all cylinders are getting fire. But the cylinder itself will not fire.
What could be the issue? Would the wrong cam cause this or is it strictly an electric issue. Going to replace dist with HEI form a Buick. Could this cure the problem? Is it timing? Sure could use some help i've been chasing this for several days.

Are you sure the firing order is correct? It may not be. And was it built with correct cam you shold find that out for sure. See pic for correct firing and try that then check for a carbon tracking or cracks in dist cap.
