I have a 1968 Ford Falcon with an inline 6 200ci engine. There has been oil leaking into the number 1 cylinder spark plug on the tip which causes the engine to run really rough and stall. There is also blue smoke coming out of the exhaust upon start up and acceleration from a stop. I have researched problems that involve these symptoms and have had results such as bad valve seals and bad piston rings but, being new to fixing cars, I don't know what is the problem.

OK, blue smoke on start up is constant with oil passing the valve stem seals, but if you are also getting smoke on acceleration this can be a ring problem, this will also normally show up with smoke on over run, that is road speed and back off the throttle, do you see this as well? I would get a leak down test to check the condition of the rings, start here.
