1966 Ford Mustang Repair Question

I have a 1966 mustang that I have somehow managed to get stuck into 2 gears at once. I have no idea what caused this issue or how to resolve it.

It happened when I was on a slight incline. I was unable to get it out of the two gears. I had to removed the U-joint and push it to my shop.

Is that original? They didn't use 5 speeds back then.

auto or manual but 5 speed sounds manual
